Millwright is a handsome warehouse conversion set in the heart of the rapidly-regenerating Northern Quarter. Only a handful of Art Deco buildings remain in Leeds, so it's great to see one of the surviving examples brought back to life. This old shoe factory was built in the 1920s and converted in 2002 to provide a small number of genuine loft apartments. The kitchens and bathrooms wouldn't win any design awards, but there are wooden floors throughout, extra-wide windows and high ceilings too. Although the surrounding area isn't what you'd call picturesque, it's quiet vibrant (that's a good word for urban!) and you can walk into the city centre in less than 15 minutes. Despite the less-than-perfect location, we've still given Millwright and excellent 9/10 score due to the rarity of apartment blocks such as this
