Located on the eastern fringes of the city centre, Saxton is the redevlopment of two landmark council blocks by the trend-setting developers, Urban Splash. On paper it looks great; over 400 contemporary apartments set in 6 acres of land complete with allotments and a wild meadow. In practice it's not as beautiful as it sounds, but it's a brave attempt to regenerate a long-forgotten part of the city centre. The two blocks have been stripped down to their concrete cores and redesigned completely, so it's more a new-build development than a conversion. There are some lovely design details, from the internal balconies to the full-height windows and designer kitchens. The quality is top-notch, there's plenty of green space surrounding the blocks and you can walk into town in less than 15 minutes. The blocks are built high upon a hill with views right across the city, but we prefer the apartments at the rear of the blocks, they have lovely views of the neighbouring church
